Embroidery Tool Tip: Pilot Frixion Pens

Last weekend I had the joy of visiting Acorns & Threads in Portland, OR, and while I was there I was introduced to my favorite new embroidery tool – Pilot Frixion Pens!

The beauty of these pens is that the ink DISAPPEARS when it is rubbed, or when heated above 140 degrees F! Which means you can draw/trace your embroidery design right on your fabric (try taping it to a sun-filed window or build your own lightbox), stitch over it, heat it up with an iron or hair drier, and VOILA! No more ink!

And don’t think these are just for embroidery – you could mark centers or grid lines for cross stitch and needlepoint with these as well!

Now, you can certainly buy these from Amazon (or Acorns & Threads if you are in the Portland area) if you want to stick with basic black, but if you are looking for a ridiculous amount of variety, I suggest heading over to JetPens.com, where you can pick up a 24 color set in the 0.7 mm size, or a 5 color set in the 0.4 mm size for super-skinny lines. (If, like me, you are a pen addict, I warn you that JetPens is a little like Heaven, so prepare your wallet 🙂 )

Have you tried one of these pens yet? I’m really happy with my one black pen, but would love to hear about your experiences with them before I take the plunge and grab the 24-color set!

UPDATE: Just found this link to a sale for the 0.5mm red, blue, black and purple pens on Pilot’s twitter – $1.99 each!
